History
The Graduate Program in Museology, established in 2013, is part of the School of Philosophy and Human Sciences (FFCH) at the Federal University of Bahia (UFBA), and stems from the desire of faculty members of undergraduate program in Museology, created in 1969.
The Program aims to train professors and researchers whose work can allow for the enhancementof the scientific production in the field of Museology, bearing in mind that the North and the Northeast of Brazil are characterized by their uniqueness and lack of Graduate courses in this field of knowledge,beingstill very recent the implementation of undergraduate courses in these regions.
With the Graduate Program in Museology, UFBA – located in a privileged geographical position – became the first site of an advanced course in this field of knowledge, at Master's level, and a research pole in Interstate research and intellectual capacitation, aiming atproblematizing routes and itineraries on collections of a multiple nature, and different expressions of heritage, thus generating a significant impact on the most traditional approaches. The Program brings together the expectation for qualification in the training of new faculty members, revaluation and updating of existing museum equipment, or in an implementationphase, and the questioning of the explicit or underlying motivations about cultural heritage within a broad perspective.
